Intended Audience - Everyone
Learn CPR, the use of an AED, and choking rescue for adults, children, and infants During this class you will learn how to provide effective CPR, how to use an AED and choking rescue for adults, children, and infants. You will also learn the 5 links in the adult Chain of Survival:
- Immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of the emergency response system
- Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with an emphasis on chest compressions
- Rapid defibrillation with the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
- Effective advanced life support
- Integrated post-cardiac arrest care
A strong Chain of Survival can improve chances of survival and recovery for victims of heart attack, stroke and other emergencies.
The registration fee for each participant is $50. Upon completion of this course each participant will receive an American Heart Association CPR Certification valid for two years.

Intended Audience - The Professional Rescuer
Identical content as the Heart Saver class but with the addition of a 1/2 hour of topics oriented towards the professional rescuer. If you are a professional rescuer, you will want to take this class.
The registartion fee for each participant is $85.

Emergency Medical Technician - Original | Schedule & Description | Register |
SVAC is offering a EMT - Original course which prepares individuals as entry level Emergency Medical Technicians in career and volunteer positions within the State of New York. The $700.00 course fee may be reimbursable for those who ride with SVAC or other DOH approved EMS Agencies and does not include the cost of books and other course materials.
This class starts at 7:00 pm on May 06, 2021 and meets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Saturdays. Class size is limited.

Can private group CPR/AED training sessions be arranged?
Yes, private group training is available. SVAC has provided CPR classes, for families, civic groups and businesses. If you are interested in setting up a private group training class, please email
cpr@scarsdalevac.com.
What is the minimum age for taking the CPR/AED course offered by SVAC?
While there is no official minimum age we recommend that participants be at least 12 years old.
Do I need any medical training before I take the CPR/AED course offered by SVAC?
SVAC courses are designed for anyone with limited or no medical training. They are also for individuals who need a course completion card for job, regulatory or other requirements.
Will I receive a course completion certification?
Yes, after successfully completing the course you will receive an American Heart Association certification card valid for two years.
Will I have to do "Mouth to Mouth" resuscitation as a part of the class?
Rescue breathing is taught during the class but you will not have to perform "Mouth to Mouth" resuscitation.
Do I have to be a Scarsdale resident to take the CPR class?
The CPR class is open to everyone regardless of where you reside.

How can I pay the Tuition?
The tuition must be paid by cash, check or money order payable to Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps on the first day of class. We do not accept Credit or Debit cards at this time.
Is there a payment plan available?
Unfortunately, we can only accept full payments for the tuition.
I am a member of an EMS agency, do I have to pay for this course?
Yes, but your tuition may be reimbursable by your agency if you pass the NYS exam. Check with your agency regarding reimbursement.
I already have the EMT Original course textbook, do I need to purchase it again?
No. As long as you have all the required books, All students are free to purchase the textbooks on their own or purchase them through SVAC. You must show the books to the instructor to ensure they are the correct version.
I already have CPR certification, do I need to take this portion of the class again?
Yes, New York State requires we conduct CPR testing as part of the course.
Are there any other materials needed for the course?
You will be required to supply the following items for the course: a watch with a second-hand, blue or black ink pen, a 3 inch binder for materials and #2 pencils which are required for written exams.
SVAC will supply you with sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff), stethoscope, penlight and a pocketmask.
